A weekend in Dartmoor

Just got back from a fantastic short break away with the urban75 walking club in Princetown, Devon.

The bike rides were challenging, the walks were fantastic, the drinking mighty and the weather was at times was near Biblical!

Full photo report to follow soon.

Dented buses, Brixton trams and DIY signs

Brixton photos

There was much excitement (and piss taking) going on at the corner of Gresham Rd and Coldharbour Lane on Saturday morning when a bus driver completely miscalculated the turning.

As part of their public consultation process, Transport for London (TfL) dragged down a mock up of the proposed tram into Tate Gardens, Brixton.

Down in Loughborough Junction, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the frontage of the long-closed Green Man pub had been carefully restored back to what looks like its original façade.

The building has been polished up and turned into yuppie flats above, and although the pub isn't expected to return to life as a boozer, it sure looks nice.

Offline mashup

Ooerr, it was rather a lively one on Saturday.

Don't forget our Offline Special on Thursday May 31st - we've got an amazing line up including ace comedian Stewart Lee, plus Darren Hayman and more brilliant bands!

North London drinkin'

Ooo-er. Last night was a bit fierce. I ventured way north to the windswept wastelands of Stoke Newington from an urban75 drink up and, lo, beer did flow. Oh yes indeedy.

Swifts, Actionettes and Djing

Actionettes

Last night checked out the Actionettes at St George's church, Bloomsbury and then headed off to JAMM for a late DJ slot at How Does It Feel To Be Loved

Brixton swifts
In amongst the gloom of a really rainy day, it was great to see swifts doing their mad bombing capers around my tower block again this year.

They fly within inches of my window at breakneck speed (and are thus near impossible to photograph), but I managed to grab a few pics above.

If you're after a new smartphone, you might want to give this one a look:

Palm Treo 750v review

As for me, I'm going to stick with my trusty Palm Treo 650 and wait for the fabulous-looking Treo 755p to come out in UK land.

A trip to timewarp Southwold

Southwold photos

We spent a delightful few days in the coastal town of Southwold in Suffolk last week, pedalling about on our little folding bikes.

Southwold photos
The whole area is picture-book pretty, and seems almost unchanged from the middle of last century.

Southwold photos
The architecture is fabulous, and there's some fabulous walks around the town and country bike rides to be had.

Southwold photos
We visited Dunwich, once a large trading port boasting nine churches, but after several calamitous storms in the middle ages, only a tiny village remains.

Southwold photos
Despite many of them falling into the sea, there's some stunning medieval churches to be found, most of them massively over sized for the small communities they now serve.
