Rose Theatre, Bankside

Rose Theatre, Bankside

By chance we stumbled across the Rose Theatre 'open weekend' last week and took a look inside.

Rose Theatre, Bankside

There's not really a great deal to see, but it is kind of 'umbling to know that you're stood where people once saw some of Shakespeare's plays for the first time.

Palm Treo 500v Pocket PC Review

Palm Treo 500v Pocket PC Review
After attending the launch party last week, I've been using (and rather liking) Palm's new 500v phone.

It may run Windows Mobile (I'm a Palm OS kinda fella), but it's a really nice phone with clever-clogs location based services and onboard Mobile TV.

Gasometers are cool

Kings Cross, Single Gasholder No 8

I passed this tonight, and grabbed a couple of shots with my Ricoh GR camera.

Once one four famous gasometers serving the area around Kings Cross, this one - officially known as "Single Gasholder No 8" is the lone survivor and faces an uncertain future.

Kings Cross, Single Gasholder No 8

Originally erected by the Imperial Gas Light and Coke Company in 1880 and decommissioned in the 1980s, there is an unexpected twist to the story: far from being scrapped, all the Grade II-listed gasometers have been carefully stored with planes to restore them once work on the St Pancras Eurostar rail link (and the regeneration of the area) is completed.

Let's hope it happens because gasometers rock!

The whole area around Kings Cross is definitely worth another look too. It's changing rapidly and there's some really interesting stuff to snap that won't be around for long.

A walk around Lincoln's Inn Fields & Holborn

Lincoln's Inn Fields

Lincoln's Inn Fields

This is a great area of London to wander about in. The park is London's biggest public square and there's some fascinating architecture all around.

The surrounding area is fascinating too, with lots of quirky buildings and interesting sights. Well worth a visit!

Behold! The majesty of Tottenham Hale!

Behold! The majesty of Tottenham Hale!

Welcome to Tottenham Hale. All cars, roads, railings, roundabouts and concrete. Easily one of the ugliest places in London.

This was taken on my route from the tube, a walk that involved trudging over a large concrete bus station concourse (busily transporting people to the Ikea in Edmonton), passing a hideous block of corporate food chains and then walking along a busy one-way road.

Just before this scene, the ever decreasing pavement was eventually pushed completely off the road, making me walk through a run down council estate before I rejoined the road at this charming spot.

Nice, huh?

London Rollergirls Rollerderby

 Rock'n'Rollerderby

That was a whole heap of fun: on Saturday I braved the bleak wastelands of Tottenham Hale (surely the ugliest, most road-tastic area of London?) to check out the London Rollergirls.

Petts Wood walk, sth London

Petts Wood Walk

Just 20 mins train ride out of Brixton is Petts Wood, a 1930s 'new town' surrounded by ancient forest.

 Scadbury Manor

By a happy coincidence, we walked past the site of the moated Tudor Scadbury Manor on the one day a year it was open.
