It’s been a while since I’ve been along to the famous free Beach Parties on the River Thames, but last night’s party was a hoot.
It’s a bizarre thing to find the dancefloor rapidly decreasing in size as the tide comes in, but the atmosphere was fantastic big respect to the crew who put it on.
Annoyingly I didn’t take my camera along, so I had to use the fairly rubbish one on my phone. Here’s two snaps:

Although we prefer to frequent independent bookstores, Borders on Oxford Street was always a handy place for a quick free read of the music mags, and there was always a good selection of books in store.
When it first opened, we used to quite like the cafe too – it was a handy place for meetings – but after it turned into a ruddy Starbucks franchise, we went elsewhere.

Here’s some photos of what could be the last day of the store, with everything marked at half price.
Borders have said that the lease has now been sold to a ‘fashion retailer.’

Fabulous gig in the Brixton Price Albert last night with the incredible John Hegley and Jessica Delfino playing live, plus the Actionettes on the DJ decks.

Jessica’s back next Friday with festival legend, Beans on Toast.

I love the Lambeth Country Show – a two day festival of sheep shearing, owls, weird vegetable creatures, spliffs, ska and lashings of Chucklehead cider.
Here’s some photos from the 2009 show:

After a great day drinking Chucklehead cider at the Lambeth Country Show (photo report coming soon), I was definitely in the mood for the rivet-removing full-on rockandroll of Atomic Suplex.
And they kicked ass in industrial quantities, entertaining one of the most bonkers crowds seen at Offline for quite a while.

I’ve just posted up a few more photos from my trip to Philadelphia last winter:

I had this fascinating photo forwarded to us of a zebra-driven carriage leaving Brixton and heading for Stockwell.
The photo wasn’t dated, but I’m guessing that it was taken around 1915 (electrified trams didn’t arrive in Brixton until 1904 so it must be after then).
The only real clue is the advertisement for Quin and Axtens on the railway bridge, although that seems to have changed regularly – witness the different styles seen in 1920 and a year later.
We can’t even work out what the carriage is – according to
wikipedia there’s endless permutations for such vehicles, so it could be a trap, a gig, a fly or something else entirely.

This was fun: a bash dishing out free gin all night with the Actionettes dancing and a great exhibition upstairs. Win!

We stayed at Fforest which offers posh camping in the middle of a lovely ancient wood near the lovely village of Cilgerran.
There’s some great walks to be had, with the River Teifi offering some spectacular views.

Here’s some pics from our recent holiday in south west Wales. I was astonished how beautiful and picturesque the area was.
We had a chuffin’ fantastic time and can’t recommend the area enough for a walking/cycling and, err, drinking trip.

Straight after this picture was taken, the lady on the right took off one of her red stiletto shoes and balanced it on her head. Most odd.

Too hungover to type anything sensible at the moment, but last night’s Gay Shame at the Brixton Academy was fantastic fun.
Great crowd, lovely atmosphere and a helluva party!
