A walk through Treptower Park and the Island of Youth, Berlin, Germany

Located to the south-east of the city centre, is Treptower Park, a large 88.2 hectare public space created between 1876 and 1888.

Home to the striking Soviet War Memorial, the park hosted the 1896 Berlin Trade Exhibition and now features a famous rose garden with 25,000 plants.

Moody skies ahead.

We were flanked on our walk by this disco boat, which pumped out endless hard house, like a floating Club 414!

A flying boat offered tourists the chance to fly over Berlin.

The bridge over to Insel der Jugend (Island of Youth) was the first composite steel bridge built in Germany.

The small (1.8 hectares) island hosts art and cultural events.

Flying boat takes to the skies.

Enjoying a drink at the Island garden.

The sparrows here are very confident and will leap on your plate the second you look away!

The storm arrives.

The bridge across the River Spree is covered in ‘love locks.’

A small industry has sprung up supplying these locks.

Clearing up after the storm.

Looking out from the island.

There’s several cafes and bars on the island.

On the approach to the bridge can be seen the signatures of famous German people.
