After residents lost the battle to stop Williamsburg’s waterfront being  rezoned for high-end development in 2005, the area has been gentrifying at an incredible rate.

Although the main drag at Bedford Avenue has changed beyond all recognition, some parts of the area’s industrial past could still be seen at the beginning of 2011. Here’s some photos from a winter’s stroll around the area.

Altas cafe, located at  the corner of Havemeyer and Grand, Williamsburg. With its bountiful free wi-fi, decent coffee and great selection of fresh bagels, paninis and cakes, this is a very popular place for students.
