Brixton Skating Rink

Opened in 1910, Brixton Skating Rink was situated in Effra Road and was a popular venue until it closed around 1965.

If you’d gone in the 1920s you could have rocked to the dance band that included a William Robert Fuller who could wow you with his  Trumpet, Cornet, Piano, Organ, Violin, One string fiddle, Mandolin and the Swanee Whistle skills!

  1. I used to go rolling skating from 1955/58. I took lessons for figure skating until my parents couldn’t afford it, with some girls called Anne and Maureen. After that I did a bit of speed skating until boys took over. Had a wonderful time and yes still remember it with great affection.
