Brixton Square emerges on Coldharbour Lane, dons suitably 'edgy' typeface

It appears Brixton is getting a new square in the shape of ‘Brixton Square’ at 368-372 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, London, SW9 8PL – right next to Granville Arcade/Brixton Village.

A Barratt Homes development on the site of the much-missed Cooltan Arts community centre, the ‘Brixton Square’ name has only recently appeared on the site hoardings, resplendent in a graffiti-style ‘edgy’ typeface.

Although it’s calling itself ‘Brixton Square,’ as far as I can see there’s no actual public square included in this private development.

In fact, I don’t think there’s any council/social housing either, and I’m not sure about how much affordable housing is in there too – Barratt’s website currently has no information at all about these new ‘contemporary apartments.’

Still, at least there’s that lovely green space outside Southwyck House opposite, which is still a popular choice for folks to enjoy their lunch outdoors.

Well, it’s there for now, but even that’s under threat from developers: I’ll be posting up more about that later.

Discuss the development – and other Brixton matters on the very busy Brixton forum.

  1. Times are certainley changing, where new futures are been built. And our history is past memories of the stories,we shared with these magnificence buildings,of old. A good song from John Lennon “There are places i remember all my life.”
