Checking out the new National Museum of Art in Cardiff

National Museum of Art, Cardiff

As if 1927 wasn’t a great enough year for Cardiffians (it was the year the mighty Bluebirds won the FA Cup) it was also the year that saw the opening of the splendid National Museum of Wales.

Located in the heart of Cardiff’s elegant civic centre, the museum now hosts Wales’s national archaeology, art, geology and natural history collections as well as major touring and temporary exhibitions.

In July 2011, six new galleries were opened up as part of a £6.5m development to showcase Welsh and Welsh-owned art.

We went along to check it all out – here’s some photos:

Into the new contemporary art galleries.

I really like Richard Long’s work.

Thank goodness there’s an English translation here. Imagine the potential for confusion!

I love this piece.
