Club 414 closed by police in Brixton after shooting

I’m really saddened by this. Club 414, one of Brixton’s longest serving family-run clubs has been closed by the police for at least a month after a shooting incident on the morning of Thursday, 7th March.

The club is renown for its hard house/trance/techno nights, and has to be one of the most trouble-free venues in Brixton.

Trouble occurred after the venue was hired for a private reggae party, and at 4am, a fight broke out on the dancefloor, leading to one of the promoters being shot twice. Police are now investigating the incident.

While this this is clearly a horrifying incident, it does seem very harsh to force the indefinite closure of the entire venue.

This is not a rough house where trouble breaks out all the time – in fact, it’s one of the fluffiest venues I can think of – so I urge the police to reconsider their decision.

  1. This is completely over the top by the police. The 414 doesn’t usually have reggae nights on a regular basis does it. I’ve been going for 10 years and it’s always been a fun and trouble free place. I really hope the police relax their strong arm approach. I’m pretty sure an appeal can be made to the magistrates court.

  2. Yes, that’s right Peter. It was usually full of champagne swilling toffs in boaters discussing Manhattan business deals. At times you couldn’t get down Coldharbour Lane for all the Rollers parked outside!

  3. I’m a market trader…..of the fruit type not the city type…i cannot believe I am reading this…i love the 414…been a regular for nearly 20 years…at least 10 of them religiously for their Sunday night just groove parties. I have always felt at ease going to 414 on my home…something i wouldn’t dream of doing at more commercial mainstream nightclubs…i wish them a speedy recovery from all this …i can’t wait to go again….and i will!

  4. Been to 414 loads of time’s never a porbs at all,had some of the best night’s of my life in there.
