Junction Sweet Junction and the mystery of the Bird Seed Specialists, SW9

Seen adjacent to the Shakespeare Business Centre building off Coldharbour Lane by Loughborough Junction is this rather splendid banner, proclaiming, “There’s no place like home! Junction Sweet Junction.”

It’s a great looking sign, so I can’t decide if this is a genuine old business (I hope it is) or some recent hipster artiness.

A search on Google produced no results for the company name, while Street View produced this ‘before’ scene, where the shop on the right was being used by the equally fabulously named, “Blessed Assurance Freight Solutions Ltd.”

Anyone know anything about the bird seed specialists?

  1. Hi! The banner “There is no place like home!” is part of a series of urban interventions by the community project The House in The Junction – check us out http://www.thehouseinthejunction.com, or you can find us on Facebook and Twitter. We think we met briefly with one of you guys at Ray’s SIA C.A.F.E (you recently wrote a post about it) while we were all knitting colourful yarn together for another of our urban interventions. We’d love to meet up and tell you more about our project. The “Bird Seed Specialists” shop sign is an original sign from the 1940s which was found under the more recent “Blessed Assurance Freight Solutions” sign and it was so beautiful that the owners of the house decided to leave it there, but it is not related to the project. Thanks for blogging about The House in The Junction!

  2. Hi, I know you posted this article a long time ago, I have been doing my family tree and have found out that my gg grandfather was one of the partners of the bird seed business.
