Here’s a beautifully shot film about the last glass eye maker in Britain.

Directed by Tomas Leach and filmed in 16mm by Ben Todd, the film tells the story of Jost Haas, a German-born craftsman working in London using techniques that are nearly two hundred years old.

Haas has dedicated his life to creating glass eyes of the highest quality, and the film shows him deftly shaping and forming the eyes by blowing into a small glass tube.

The craft is traditionally centred around Germany and Austria (so I guess he doesn’t get to hang out with fellow glass eye makers very often), but Haas says he intends to go on as long as he can for the sake of his loyal customers who appreciate his craftsmanship.
