Nell Gwynne Tavern, Strand, London – ideal for scaffolding enthusiasts

Nell Gwynne pub, Strand, London - ideal for scaffolding enthusiasts

I loved this sign for the Nell Gwynne Tavern, a small pub located on Bull Inn Court, just off The Strand in central London.

The entrance is currently covered in scaffolding, so some wag from the pub has created a suitably witty sign.

Here’s how the entrance normally looks – the pub is just through the archway  [see map].

Named after the legendary West End actress and mistress of King Charles II, the Nell Gwynne is a tiny, old fashioned kind of pub, and rather an excellent one too, with a decent enough choice of beers, loads of gins and some old school pub snacks.
