Salisbury cathedral and town photos, Wiltshire, England

En route to Endorse It Festival this year, I had a couple of hours to kill in Salisbury, so I went for a quick clatter around the town, with my noisy, booze-filled wheely bag disturbing locals wherever I went.

Salisbury is a very pretty town, although I’m not sure I could cope with the vast coachloads of camera-clacking visitors that swarm around its streets every day (oh hang on – I’ve just described myself, there).

The cathedral is a beauty – built between 1220 and 1258, it can boast the highest church spire in the land.

Art ahoy!

A temporarily installation by Sean Henry was situated on the lawn in front of the cathedral. It’s not a real duvet cover, by the way – it’s made of fibreglass (or something similarly rock hard).

More art! Inside the Fisherton Mill gallery/studio/cafe space, close to the station.

  1. Talk about memories from long ago. I used to walk through the archway and pass the cathedral everyday I went to school at Leaden Hall. One day, I would like to visit my “old stomping grounds”

  2. Interesting to look at these. Random fact. Salisbury cathedral was the tallest structure *of any kind* in the UK until the mid 20th century, when TV masts began to dot across the landscape.

    1. Salisbury Cathedral was my favourite cathedral and peeked my interest in British history and all the historic sites. While I lived in England, I tried to see as much as possible. One of the things I missed when I returned to Canada. (Lincoln Cathedral a close runner up and Arundel Castle is my favourite castle)
