The Really Free School – Guy Ritchie’s nemesis – moves to WC2

After occupying Guy Ritchie’s Fitzrovia mansion for a while, those cheeky chappies at The Really Free School have found a new location for their activities at The Hand and Racquet Public House, 48 Whitcomb Street, London, WC2H 7HA.

They’ve moved over from their last ex-public house premises at The Black Horse, and have already announced a full session of forthcoming activities, with lessons, talks and workshops. Check out their website for event listings.

Conveniently, I’d already posted up a feature on this closed pub which had lain empty for well over a year, so they were able to quickly find an image to use on their site  🙂

Telegraph is aghast

Naturally, the ghastly Daily Telegraph is up in arms at the prospect of people putting long-empty and disused buldings into community use,  posting up predictably whiny and alarmist articles: The middle class serial squatters exploiting the law and How squatters evade the law.

It seems that the Torygraph could only afford the same one image to illustrate both articles. If they’d asked nicely, they could have used one of mine. For a donation, natch.

  1. squatting guy richies house – not a smart move – you need to keep this stuff out of the papers – what did they acheive – fuck all, they got booted out in a week, it was all over the national media about squatters living in mansions – these lot are the worst thing that have happened to london squatters in years – as well as being a load of hippy twats.
