The south coast resort of Hastings has no less than two funicular railways ascending its cliffs, with the East Hill Cliff Railway and the West Hill Cliff Railway offering two distinctively different rides.
The West Hill Cliff Railway was built in 1891 and takes you on a 500 foot trip to the top of the hill, with the line rising 170 feet.
The views from the top are superb.
The East Hill Cliff Railway is shorter, but the line is much steeper and is open all the way up, so you can get a great view of Hastings and the sea.
This was the second cliff railway to be built in Hastings, arriving in 1903. The station building is an Edwardian delight.
