Urban orchard and and community garden, Union Street, SE1

Urban Orchard, 100 Union Street, London SE1 part of London Festival of Architecture

Following the London Festival of Architecture and lasting through the autumn, a derelict site at 100 Union Street in SE1 has been transformed into an urban orchard and community garden.

Here’s how the organisers describe the venture:

Designed by Heather Ring of the Wayward Plant Registry for The Architecture Foundation and built with the help of Bankside Open Spaces Trust and an array of other helpful volunteers the garden will regenerate a disused site in Bankside and create a place for exchange between local residents and visitors to the Festival.

Entrance to the orchard.

The garden will last from 19 June – 19 August after which the garden will be dismantled and all the plants and the 85 trees will be replanted around Bankside as part of the Bankside Urban Forest vision.

A table tennis table in a skip is in the garden as part of the Ping Pong London project.
