Usain Bolt wins – and the Brixton Cake Shop goes wild!

There were wild scenes on Colharbour Lane tonight as defending champion Usain Bolt won the men’s 100m final at London 2012 in an Olympic record time of 9.63 seconds.

With loads of people still drinking in the street nearby after today’s Splash event, the cake shop was the nearest place with a TV, so everyone flocked over to watch the race – and the cheers were deafening!

Update: Dogstar celebrates (video)

Further along the road, a packed crowd in the Dogstar pub on Coldharbour Lane also goes wild as they watch Bolt’s sensational win. Follow the link below to watch the video.

  1. That shop does a good trade even a t normal times – much to my surprise. Who would have thought a couple of years ago that Brixton would have two rival cake shops in the same street. Unfortunately the patisserie in Brixton Road closed some time ago though.
I nicked the top shot for my Facebook followers in Africa (& a few in the US). Hope you don’t mind.

  2. Hi,
Really a very particular atmosphere. As David Warner says there must be something other than a TV there. It seems like they make good cakes too, hehe. Or/and they may have a very good screen, right?

  3. how profound the comments, i predict an extreme & superbly bright future for david warner, as well as Jose! and i thought that landing of Curiosity was newsworthy……YOU GO JOSE, AND DAVID!
