Brixton Rocks!
Destination Brixton Expo, 14th July 2003

Billed as an evening of 'spoken word, poetry, comedy and live music', this proved to be the hottest Monday night in town!

Brixton Rocks, Poetry and spoken word night at Plan B, Brixton, 14th July, 2003

Located at Brixton's swish Plan B' nightclub, the event brought together a hugely diverse set of some of the finest local talent, with poets and rappers including Crisis, Skorpio the Nemesis, C E Abdulla, Vic Lambrusco, Niall Sullivan, Ranting Ritchie, Soldier Sophie and Jason Jack.

The best thing about the night was that the 'Open Mic' policy meant that seasoned pros mixed it with nervous first-timers. The crowd was up for it, forgiving newcomers for fluffing lines and being generous with the encouraging applause.

With the effervescent and ebullient host Michael Groce keeping things moving along, the crowd was treated to a feast of fast and furious entertainment, with the sounds provided by Alabama 3's, DJ Larry Love.

The evening was wrapped up by Vic Lambrusco (above) who delivered a storming set that got the crowd a-whooping for more.

There's talk of making this a monthly event. Let's hope so.
