Tate Library, Brixton

Built by the philanthropist inventor of the sugar cube, Sir Henry Tate, the Tate once stood next to the 'Brixton Theatre and Opera House', situated between the library and the Ritzy.

The theatre was destroyed in the Second World War, although the foundation stone laid by Henry Irving in 1894 survives in Windrush Square.
