On a cold and blustery October night, Cardiff City manager Lenny Lawrence came down from Cardiff to meet the assorted rabble of the 1927 Club in the Fountain Abbey pub, Paddington, London W2.
During the course of an entertaining evening, he spoke frankly and honestly about Cardiff's recent past and prospects for the future.
Happily, Lenny's got quite a bit more upstairs than some football managers, so we weren't bored to death with an evening full of football cliches about 'sick parrots' and 'the lads giving 110%'.
Naturally, many beers were quaffed, with Lenny taking care of the raffle ticket duties (the prizes - kindly donated by CCFC - were a shirt and ball signed by the first team squad, 2 tickets for the Ipswich home game in November and an assortment of FAW badges/keyrings etc).
Throughout his talk (and the subsequent Question and Answer session), Lenny gave the impression of a strong willed, capable and pragmatic man, who truly believes that Cardiff have both the ability and the infrastructure to rise to the top.
It was hard not to feel upbeat about City's prospects after hearing Lenny speak, so I drank some more beer before heading off to the nightclubs of Brixton. And now my head hurts.
Mucho thanks to Lenny for making the trip down to London and a big 'Yo! Good work fellas!' to the 1927-ers who arranged the visit. Respect!
