urban75 bulletin boards: help and info files
(Last updated: 27th Oct 2008)

REGISTERING PROBLEMS
To register, you will need to specify a username and password, and a valid email address. Entering your email address will not leave you open to 'spam', as you can choose to hide your email address, and messages sent to you via email do not reveal your address to the sender in any case. (To verify this, you can try sending an email message to another user.)

The final part of the registration process involves you being sent an email with a link that lets you 'active' your account. For that reason, please ensure that the email address you provide is valid and working.

BECAUSE ALL NEW REGISTRATIONS HAVE TO BE MODERATED YOU MAY HAVE TO WAIT BETWEEN 1-48 HOURS BEFORE YOU CAN START POSTING

Please note: if you change the email address in your profile, you will have to activate your account again.

(More info: Bulletin Boards FAQ)

CAN'T LOG ON:
Have you finished the registration process? To register, you will need to specify a username and password, and a valid email address. You will then be sent an email asking you to 'activate' the account by clicking in a link. Without completing this, you will not be able to post, so please ensure that the email address you provide is valid and working. You may also have to clear your cookies (See below)

ALREADY REGISTERED AND CAN'T LOG ON?
Have you changed your email address in your profile? If you change your address you will be sent an automated email with a link that you MUST click on to confirm your new address.

AOL USERS PROBLEMS
If you log on normally and get told that you are not logged in when you try to reply to a post, read this: If AOL users have 'Automatically remember my username and password' AND 'Browse this board with cookies,' they will not experience these problems.

If they do not have 'Automatically remember my username and password' set, they will get logged out by vBulletin's session validation process. This is because they are actually getting logged in again and again by their cookie.

This only applies to AOL users who use AOL's internal browser. If they open up Internet Explorer or Netscape, they don't go through AOL's multi-homed proxy.

This applies to any user who's accessing the site through a multi-homed proxy server. This includes WebTV users, many users accessing vBulletin sites from work, and users accessing vBulletin from educational institutions who use this technology.

ZONE ALARM USERS:
If you're using the latest version of Zone Alarm, turn OFF the cookie control as it won't allow you to stay logged in to the site, whatever your settings.

HOW TO CLEAR COOKIES
Here are the instructions for Internet Explorer 5 on Windows: Close all Internet Explorer windows. Click the "Start" button. Move up to 'Find' and click 'Files or Folders' from the menu that appears. In the new window that appears, in the "containing text" field, type in 'urban75.com' (without the quotes) In the "look in" box, type in 'C:\Windows\Cookies\' (without the quotes) and press 'Find Now'

After it has finished searching, highlight all files (click a file, then press CTRL+A) and delete them (press the "delete" key or SHIFT+DEL) Your cookies should now be removed. You may want to restart the computer and revisit the board to be sure.

You can also go to www.urban75.net/vbulletin/mycookies.php and clear cookies for each domain.

WANT TO CHANGE 'JUNIOR MEMBER' STATUS?
When you first join, the words, 'junior poster' will appear under your name on any posts. To change your description, click in the 'UserCP' (small graphic link at the top of the page), select 'edit profile' and then change the text in the 'custom user text' box. Please note that this text only becomes editable after your first 30 posts.

TURN OFF EMAIL NOTIFICATION?
Go into your User CP (it's the graphic link, middle right of the page, underneath the main black nav bar), select the 'Edit Options' tab and untick the "Use 'Email Notification' by default?" option.

POSTING IMAGES
Go to Google or wherever, get your image, right-click on it, select 'properties' and then copy the full address in the 'location' field (it'll look like 'http://www.whatever.com/...')..
Then, in the 'reply to post' box on urban, click on the IMG box in the forum reply page, and then hold down the Ctrl key and then press the V key to copy the image's address into the box. Voila!

PLEASE do not post up obscene, copyrighted, or gore-fest images and make sure that they don't weigh over 75k (the image size will be displayed in the 'properties' box - right click on the image to view the size).

Uploading an attachment:
Click the 'Attach File' button (underneath the 'reply' text box) and then browse to the file you want to upload (which has to be on your machine). Please note that images must not be larger than 10k - use programs like Photoshop to reduce image size (tip: save images at 72dpi)
