Madison Square Park

Named after the president of the day, the seven-acre Madison Square Park was opened in 1847.

In this scene, lunchtime workers relax around the statue of Admiral David Farragut, a Union Fleet commander and Civil War hero, remembered for his quote, 'Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!'
