Taking the Amtrak from New York, I spent a day and a night last month revisiting the historic town of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Arriving at Lancaster station.
Amtrak trains are big and comfortable but tortuously slow compared to their European counterparts, with fares fluctuating wildly in price almost hourly.

Stan’s Record Bar at 48 N Prince Street was sadly closed when I passed by.
Lancaster is peppered with side alleys.
It was great to see the wonderful Innocence Mission performing in their home town. The show was fantastic.
After the show, we visited the Coffin Bar.
Despite the name and all the gothic/satanic themed accoutrements, it turned out to be disappointingly vanilla affair with polite music levels and not an emo in sight.
So sad to see Brendee’s still boarded up after a disastrous fire. I had an amazing night there a few years ago.
Decades is a fun, noisy restaurant & bar, six-lane boutique bowling alley, retro arcade, and events venue in downtown Lancaster.
It was loud and fun.
The next day we went for brunch at Zoetropolis. Thank you Tara!
The Fulton theatre is located in historic downtown Lancaster.
It is reportedly the oldest working theatre in the United States and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964
Traffic lights and the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, a 43-foot tall Gothic Revival memorial which was dedicated on July 4, 1874.
Completed in 1766, the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is located at 31 South Duke Street.
One of the oldest inland cities in the US, Lancaster has some impressive churches and stunning architecture.

On my way to the station, I grabbed a splendid coffee at Square One on North Duke Street.
The Lancaster Composition Company was – I think – an old printers’ company that made typeset printers’ blocks.
