Following on from Rob Masterman’s excellent archive photos of Cefn Onn, here’s another selection showing the now-closed station in December 2004 – exactly fifteen years ago.

The station closed in September 1986, although the platforms remained intact. This is the view by the footbridge, with a flimsy fence guarding the steep path down to the Cardiff platform.

Walking through the heavily overgrown path to the closed platform.

Looking back up to the entrance.

The disused station platforms.

The path from Cefn Onn Parc to the Rhymney platform featured a short concrete staircase.

Looking south, where you can see the two stone piers of the now removed footbridge.

With the decking long removed, you can just make out the bridge supports in this view looking across the tracks.
