Dangling keys, gothic wards, dresses and massive web structures: Chiharu Shiota at the Hayward Gallery

In photos: Chiharu Shiota: Threads of Life at the Hayward Gallery

This large scale exhibition at the Hayward Gallery was nothing short of spectacular, with huge web installations pulling you into the weird and wonderful worlf of artist Chiharu Shiota.

The ground floor had been turned into a textile airport baggage conveyor, with cityscapes made out of clothing,

Inside the cloth structure.

Thousands of keys dangled from the ceiling.

With its twine encased beds and monochrome vista, this would be the perfect location for a goth party!

The miles of black twine made this look like a charcoal drawing of a dystopian hospital ward.

Chiharu Shiota: Threads of Life ran at the hayward Gallery until Sun 3 May 2026. You can find out more about the artist here.
