If you follow this blog, you’ll know that I’m a man who likes his coffee and his cafes, and I’m delighted to share my latest fave in Soho, the Flat White coffee shop at 17 Berwick St, London W1F 0PT.
The thing I immediately liked about the place was that it looked and felt more like a traditional Soho cafe, without many of the seemingly de rigueur trendy trimmings of modern coffee shops.
It’s always a good start when HP and Tomato Ketchup are available.
Now, I like to hog the wi-fi as much as the next self-facilitating media node, but it was refreshing to see this sign displayed on the wall, reminding customers that this is a cafe for chatting and not for flipping open laptops and clattering away on keys.
Of course, none of the above matters if the coffee tastes like dried mud: happily, the brew was delightful and the cake – a curious mix of Portuguese custard tart and brioche – was ruddy delicious.
It’s pretty small inside Flat White, although there are some seats outside which I imagine are the place to be in the summer.
I liked the cork noticeboard on the right, too.

The prices are pretty reasonable for the West End. I’ll grab a toastie next time I’m there.
