Here’s fifty photos taken during a recent visit to Preston in Lancashire.

The town seemed to have been hit particularly bad by Tory austerity.

The Beat Street Cafe in Manchester Road has been closed for years, with the building surviving an arson attack in 2017.

The town has some splendid civic buildings.

My band played a show at the Continental venue.

Preston Martyrs Memorial commemorates the deaths of four cotton workers who were shot by the military during the 1842 ‘Plug Riots’.

The magnificent Brutalist architecture of Preston Bus Station.

Built by Ove Arup and Partners in the Brutalist architectural style between 1968 and 1969, to a design by Keith Ingham and Charles Wilson of Building Design Partnership with E. H. Stazicker, the building has shaken off two demolition proposals and is now to be redeveloped in association with a new youth centre. []
