In photos: River Thames at low tide by the South Bank, central London

One of the real pleasures of walking by the River Thames is the fact that you can get down to the beach at low tide, do some mudlarking and enjoy lovely views looking across the city.

To the left can be seen the dome of the 17th Century St Paul’s Cathedral, while the Millennium Bridge can be seen crossing the Thames.

When it opened in June 2000, it was swiftly dubbed ‘The Wobbly Bridge’ as the deck swayed about like a drunken sailor. It’s since been fixed.
