Life in a New York dive bar – 20 photos of the Double Down Saloon in the East Village

Life in a New York dive bar - 18 photos of the Double Down Saloon in the East Village

Located in New York’s East Village, the Double Down Saloon  is a legendary and infamous dive bar, full of old school post-punk/rock energy. We love it!

The walls are plastered with graffiti, stickers and artwork, while its famous hand-written signs advise drinkers to “Shut Up And Drink” and “You Puke, You Clean.”

There’s a decent array of beers, liquors and cocktails on offer, while more adventurous imbibers can try out the venue’s mysterious Ass Juice, a  strong, sweet and vaguely brown concoction.

An  East Coast outpost of the Las Vegas original, the Double Down Saloon feels like an authentic dive bar from the 80s, although positively posh compared to the long lost and  fabulously scuzzy Mars Bar.

The bar is open from 2pm to 4am every day, and there’s no cover charge (but you’ll need ID on the door).

There’s a pool table at the back with a backyard smoking area.

Artwork on the wall.

The mural reads, ‘The Happiest Place on Earth.’

The bathrooms are everything you’d except from a dive bar.

The staff are always wonderful here.
