The fabulous La Ferme Electrique festival, Tournan en Brie, France, with The Monochrome Set, Friday 6th July 2018

La Ferme Electrique is a fabulously friendly small musical festival in Tournan-en-Brie, some 25 minutes from Paris via train, that runs over two nights in July.

Small scale, alternative, fiercely DIY and totally non-corporate, my band The Monochrome Set were lucky enough to be invited to play the main stage last weekend.

Here’s some photos from the Friday night.

The festival runs over two consecutive nights, and stages around 20 concerts, happenings, music related art exhibitions, join-in musical experiments, rare or unpublished film projections.

The event takes place in old farm buildings that are temporarily converted by volunteers for the festival, and there’s a strong DIY theme throughout.

I absolutely loved this intimate and super friendly festival, and felt honoured to be invited to perform. Here’s some photos from my short time at the festival:

The festival line-up was painted on to this structure by the entrance.

The beer was wonderful!

Interactive amplified hanging guitar installation,

There were two main indoor stages and two smaller outdoor ones.

The mighty Marcel Duchamp All-Power Orchestra on the main ‘La Grange’ stage, which was located in a large barn.

Artwork on the site.

The main square.

Soundchecking on the smaller ‘Hors Scene’  stage.

Band on the outside stage.

Badaboum onstage.

My drum kit for the evening!

Checking the levels before our show. A hefty delay on Eurostar meant that we missed our soundcheck so we had to do an extra-speedy line check and just get on with it.

But – hey! – we’re professionals. Well, sort of.

I loved this – there was a room set aside for making an old school fanzine, which was being created by cutting up bits of magazines and manually sticking everything together. No computers (like my old punk rock fanzine!).

It was a beautiful evening.

In the merchandise/fanzine tent.

Belgium rockers, The Experimental Tropical Blues Band take to the main stage.

A last look before we had to head back to the hotel. It was a wonderful festival – I hope we can come back soon!
