Whitstable photos: beach scenes, singing fisherman and an oyster eating competition

Here’s some sunny scenes from the seaside town of Whitstable in Kent, taken last year when a small festival was taking place by the harbour.

Whitstable is about an hour and half from London by train, with the harbour a short walk from the train station. Here you can see the fella in the hat confidently planning his route into town.

Patriotic plastic windmills.

Whitstable is famous for its oysters.

Here’s some views from around the harbour:

The beach was very busy.

Some brave souls take to the water.

Whitstable Yacht Club.

A crushed canoe.

Local architecture.

Oyster shells everywhere!

Old Neptune pub.

Lo-fi street art.

Relaxing at the Windy Corner Stores.

A very young solder marches past.

Beach huts.

A quintet of singing fishermen/woman.

A rock and roll band lurked between the boats.

A big wooden hamburger on a pole.

The Oyster Eating competition in progress.

The crowd cheer on the contestants.

Diving off the pier.

Petting a parrot.

Taking in the view.

Beach huts looking out to sea.

Lifeguard hut.

Clouds and contrails.

Stop Me And Buy One. A mobile ice cream vendor pedals by.

Taking in the last rays of the sun.

Harbour at sunset.

Town shops.

Fancying a pint, we popped into the Royal Naval Reserve – and inside there was mayhem!

Although the clientele were clearly no longer teenagers, they partied very hard indeed to the DJs – it was a great atmosphere inside the pub!

Ghost signs.
