Virol, whose\u00a0enamel\u00a0signs graced many a railway\u00a0station across\u00a0Britain\u00a0in the early 20th century.<\/p>\n<p>Produced experimentally by Bovril at their Old Street factory in London in 1899, Virol was registered as a\u00a0separate\u00a0brand the next year and quickly went on to enjoy great popularity for over half a century [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracesguide.co.uk\/Virol\" target=\"_blank\">read more<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The largest poster on the hoardings advertises Yorkshire Relish, which was once a hugely popular sauce, boasting the &#8216;largest sale of any sauce in the world&#8217; with &#8216;eight\u00a0million\u00a0bottles sold annually&#8217; around the turn of the century.<\/p>\n<p>The sauce was\u00a0advertised\u00a0as being\u00a0available at &#8220;all chemists, grocers&#8221; due to two large humps on the underside of the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Spending its last years as a run-down Bingo Hall, the end to the Empress finally came in 1978.
