The gentrification currently sweeping over Brixton reminds me of what happened\u00a0to the Williamsburg<\/a>\u00a0neighbourhood\u00a0in the\u00a0New York City borough\u00a0of\u00a0Brooklyn.<\/p>\n Just like in south London, locals have been priced out by developers as a more wealthier population takes over the former squats<\/a> and arts centres<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n These photos were taken around Williamsburg and nearby Greenpoint a few years ago, just as some big\u00a0redevelopment\u00a0schemes\u00a0were being pushed through.<\/p>\n I doubt if I’m going to recognise much of the area when I go back again.<\/p>\n The gentrification currently sweeping over Brixton reminds me of what happened\u00a0to the Williamsburg\u00a0neighbourhood\u00a0in the\u00a0New York City borough\u00a0of\u00a0Brooklyn.
