Registered as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company,\u00a0Mello Mello is a wonderful venue, vegetarian cafe and artistic hub in the heart of Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Established in an iconic\u00a0building in Slater Street, L1, the independent venture aims to promote and facilitate local grassroots artistic endeavours.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0sprawling\u00a0venue currently provides a vegetarian\/vegan\/gluten-free cafe bar, \u00a0an excellent music venue catering for all genres, a dance\/yoga studio, affordable rehearsal space, desk space and \u00a0a recording\/practice studio.<\/p>\n

Sadly, the venue now finds itself threatened with closure as the building has been put up for sale.<\/p>\n

A crowd funding appeal<\/a> was set up but half way\u00a0through\u00a0the fund-raising process they found that their previously accepted offer had been gazumped by an unknown bidder.<\/p>\n

This has made it very unlikely that they will be able to continue in their current premises, which would surely represent a real loss to the arts in Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Fund raising fails to meet its target<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sadly, the time ran out on the venue’s fund-raising appeal, with just over \u00a312,000 of their original target of \u00a330,000 being raised.<\/p>\n

This money has been pledged towards a new venue, or\u00a0improvements\u00a0to the current one if they are allowed to stay.\u00a0Read the full story here.<\/a><\/p>\n

If they are forced to\u00a0try to\u00a0locate alternative premises, I suspect that they may find it tough to find such a\u00a0centrally placed\u00a0location with as much space.<\/p>\n

Good luck Mello Mello<\/strong><\/p>\n

Living in a rapidly-gentrifying Brixton, I can deeply empathise with Mello Mello’s plight.<\/p>\n

I wish them\u00a0all the best because I loved the place. It’s a friendly, unique independent venue with real character, serving a very useful role in the community.<\/p>\n

I hope they’re successful in their quest to find new\u00a0premises\u00a0if they aren’t allowed to stay.\u00a0Places like Liverpool need<\/em> venues like this.<\/p>\n
