With its low lighting and laptop-friendly ambience, this is a great place to get work done (there’s free wi-fi), while chomping on their delicious breakfast fare.<\/p>\n
I became particularly enamoured with \u00a0the toasted cream cheese bagels – and the coffee wasn’t bad either – with the reasonable prices keeping us coming back for more.<\/p>\n

The West opened in Sept 2010, and is named after legendary Hollywood actress Mae West, who lived nearby.<\/p>\n
West gained notoriety for producing plays tackling controversial and progressive issues like social class, sex, African Americans, and homosexuality.<\/p>\n
On its website<\/a>, the cafe claims that they’ve been inspired by the formidable Mae:<\/p>\n In the spirit of Mae West, we strive to create a comfortable, sustainable space to support our community of talented and progressive artists, programmers, screenwriters, lawyers, writers, etc. by providing amazing snacks, drinks, free wifi, and events space.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The West is open from 7am till 2am on Mondays to Saturday, and feels quite different at night where there’s often live performances, trivia nights, poetry readings and other forms of entertainment going on.<\/p>\n Outside serving hatch.<\/p>\n Although it’s fairly empty in this view, the place can get busy at times.<\/p>\n The rear area was always full of laptop-toting customers.
