{"id":1422,"date":"2010-04-16T10:15:39","date_gmt":"2010-04-16T09:15:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=1422"},"modified":"2010-04-16T10:34:46","modified_gmt":"2010-04-16T09:34:46","slug":"cardiff-city-awaydays-northampton-town-2002","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/cardiff-city-awaydays-northampton-town-2002\/","title":{"rendered":"Cardiff City awaydays: Northampton Town 2002"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/..\/cardiff\/images\/northampton-cardiff-2002-01.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Crystal Palace 1 Cardiff City 2, Championship, Selhurst Park, south London, 27th March 2010\" width=\"580\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s another of my occasional series of photo reports from long-forgotten Cardiff City matches, with this one recalling the 2-1 victory over Northampton Town on the 2nd March, 2002.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/..\/cardiff\/images\/northampton-cardiff-2002-04.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Crystal Palace 1 Cardiff City 2, Championship, Selhurst Park, south London, 27th March 2010\" width=\"580\" height=\"390\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Northampton &#8211; who comically regale under the nickname of &#8216;The Cobblers&#8217; &#8211; had moved from their previous ground at County Ground in 1994, which they had to share with the owners, Northamptonshire County Cricket Club.<\/p>\n<p>That ground was famed for its incredibly rickety temporary mini-&#8216;grandstand.&#8217; Affording the bare minimum of &#8216;luxury&#8217; seating, it looked like it would fall over in the lightest of breezes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/..\/cardiff\/images\/northampton-cardiff-2002-05.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Crystal Palace 1 Cardiff City 2, Championship, Selhurst Park, south London, 27th March 2010\" width=\"580\" height=\"396\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Their new ground is not much to look at either, and it&#8217;s located in one of those awful, soul-sucking, out-of-town, entertainment\/commercial complexes, full of cheap nasty architecture.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/..\/cardiff\/images\/northampton-cardiff-2002-09.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Crystal Palace 1 Cardiff City 2, Championship, Selhurst Park, south London, 27th March 2010\" width=\"580\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The game wasn&#8217;t exactly memorable, but City managed to steal away with all three points &#8211; and that was good enough for me.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/..\/cardiff\/images\/northampton-cardiff-2002-10.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Crystal Palace 1 Cardiff City 2, Championship, Selhurst Park, south London, 27th March 2010\" width=\"580\" height=\"419\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Outside we were treated to a full display of surliness from extra-stroppy riot cops, specialising in pushing around fans for the lolz.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/..\/cardiff\/images\/northampton-cardiff-2002-12.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Crystal Palace 1 Cardiff City 2, Championship, Selhurst Park, south London, 27th March 2010\" width=\"580\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were some scuffles around this stadium after the final whistle, with the high embankment making it look like a medieval siege was going on as fans were repelled at the top.<\/p>\n<p>Good luck to Northampton and all that, but I couldn&#8217;t wait to get out of the place.
