Local campaigners are battling hard to save a large London Plane tree in\u00a0Redcross Way, SE1 1TD, which the local council is trying to axe because it has become an “insurance liability,” with the\u00a0application coming from the landowner (Diocese of Southwark).\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Posters have appeared all around the tree’s location and a website<\/a> explains why all of these trees should be preserved:<\/p>\n

These London Plane trees cannot be\u00a0judged only as an insurance liability.’<\/p>\n

This\u00a0is Redcross way SE1 which is\u00a0Octavia Hill country-\u00a0she created Redcross Gardens, she was co founder of National Trust, a memorial service was held for her at\u00a0Southwark Cathedral .<\/p>\n

Octavia Hill persuaded the church\u00a0commissioners to provide green space\u00a0– in conjunction with developments. These London Plane trees are the\u00a0GREEN part of the heritage of London.<\/p>\n

These London Plane trees must be\u00a0maintained for future generations –\u00a0this is OUR responsibility.<\/p>\n

The large GREEN canopy of the mature\u00a0London Plane trees are the necessary\u00a0lungs of our urban environment.
\nAn urgent review \/a tree register and\u00a0revising TPOs must be generated to\u00a0protect the Borough trees<\/p>\n

Maintenance programs must be afforded.\u00a0Tomorrow is too late.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The poster gives details about how to complain about the proposed cutting down of the tree.<\/p>\n

Above it, a wag has added, “put this axe over Boris Johnsons head.”<\/p>\n
