Here’s a series of photos taken from a short (2.7 miles\/4.5km)\u00a0walk I took recently from Vauxhall tube station (Victoria Line), along the Thames to the\u00a0north side of Blackfriars Bridge.<\/p>\n

Crossing over the Thames at Waterloo Bridge, I captured ‘The Edwardian’ vintage cruiser heading east.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

The top of the\u00a0St George Wharf Tower<\/a> (Vauxhall Tower)\u00a0new development. At 50 floors, it’s\u00a0the tallest residential building in the UK.<\/p>\n

Sadly, the tower is already linked to two deaths after a\u00a0helicopter crashed into the crane<\/a>\u00a0at the top of the\u00a0construction\u00a0in January 2013. Both the pilot and a\u00a0pedestrian at\u00a0street\u00a0level lost their lives.<\/p>\n

Completed in 1906, Vauxhall Bridge replaced an earlier 1816 bridge that was built on the site of a former ferry crossing.<\/p>\n

The bridge contains eight statues<\/a>, each weighing two tons.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

The ghastly exclusive ‘Riverwalk<\/a>‘ development under construction.<\/p>\n

Rich people get to live right on the river and block the view of others. It suits their ‘lifestyle’ apparently.<\/p>\n

Here’s what it will look like when it’s finished. Ugly. But inside, it’s all high end glamour for the pampered resident:<\/p>\n

Bespoke Boffi designer kitchens with integrated Miele and Gaggenau appliances, luxury bathrooms with feature marble walls, Dornbracht accessories and underfloor heating.<\/p>\n

Apartments also have comfort cooling to all reception rooms and bedrooms, beautiful flooring and high quality carpets in bedrooms, Crestron architectural lighting and a Crestron home automation system.<\/p>\n

The development offers exclusive private facilities for residents, including: fitness suite overlooking the Thames, secure underground parking by separate negotiation, valet parking, concierge and 24hr security. [—<\/a>]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

The small Riverside Walk Garden park to the east will be dominated by the new build.<\/p>\n

\"Nowk\u00f6lln<\/p>\n

Landscaped in 2004, the park is built on a former\u00a0dock where\u00a0criminals being transported to Australia boarded their ships.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0pillar on site bears this inscription:<\/p>\n

Near this site stood Millbank Prison, which was opened in 1816 and closed in 1890. This buttress stood at the head of the river steps from which, until 1867, prisoners sentenced to transportation embarked on their journey to Australia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

The garden is also the home to a major Henry Moore artwork called, \u00a0the “Locking Piece,” created in 1963\/64.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

Walking east\u00a0towards Westminster.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

Lambeth Bridge<\/a> features pairs of obelisks at either end of the bridge, which are\u00a0topped off with\u00a0stone pinecones.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

The ornate Buxton Memorial Fountain<\/a>, which\u00a0commemorates the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834.<\/p>\n

Designed by Gothic architect Samuel Sanders Teulon in 1865, the memorial originally stood in Parliament Square, before being moved to Victoria Tower Gardens in\u00a01957.<\/p>\n
