set of photos from my recent trip to East Suffolk, although this time I&#8217;ll admit (to paraphrase Spinal Tap) that their appeal is likely to be\u00a0more <em>selective<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s a series of photographs of the rather forlorn looking Saxmundham railway station and the closed Railway pub opposite.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/saxmundham-station-railway-pub-02.jpg\" alt=\"Photos of Saxmundham railway station and the closed Railway Pub, East Suffolk, England, August 2014\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The railway reached Saxmundham in 1859, with the station offering through services to London and Yarmouth Southtown and Lowestoft, with a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aldeburgh_Branch_Line\" target=\"_blank\">short branch line taking passengers to Leiston and Aldeburgh<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The line enjoyed substantial goods traffic, mainly of agricultural produce brought to the station from surrounding villages, but the northern end of the main line from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yarmouth_to_Beccles_Line\" target=\"_blank\">Beccles to Yarmouth<\/a> was to close in 1959,\u00a0with the branch line closing\u00a0to passengers in 1966.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the branch line is still used for traffic to the nearby Sizewell Power Stations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"15194\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The now-unmanned station building has more or less remained intact over the years, although it is now boarded up and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abelliogreateranglia.co.uk\/about-us\/property-and-retail\/35\/station-buildings\" target=\"_blank\">advertised for rent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Saxmundham railway station is located on the East Suffolk Line and is served by Greater Anglia, which operates services between Ipswich and Lowestoft.<\/p>\n<p><img shows the station with its goods shed still in use, and a Metro Cammell DMU waiting to take passengers along the Alderburgh branch.<\/p>\n<p>On the right (under the canopy) you can see what looks like a newsagent with two customers\u00a0&#8211; a sign that the station must have once enjoyed healthy levels of traffic.\u00a0( \u00a9 <a of a steam engine equipped with a snow plough at Saxmundham station was featured in the book, &#8216;<span style=\"color: #212124;\">Suffolk Steam Railways,&#8217; published by\u00a0<\/span><a
