\/><\/p>\n<p>Currently crumbling\u00a0away in Flushing Avenue, Brooklyn is this\u00a0row of derelict Second Empire style townhouses, formerly used by naval officers.<\/p>\n<p>Named Admiral&#8217;s Row, the once-grand buildings formed part of\u00a0Brooklyn Navy Yard with some of the structures dating back as far as the\u00a0Civil War.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admirals-row-brooklyn-02.jpg\" alt=\"The abandoned townhouses of Admiral's Row, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although the U.S. Navy closed the original Navy Yard in the mid-1960s, personnel were still housed in the buildings until the mid-1970s.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admirals-row-brooklyn-03.jpg\" alt=\"The abandoned townhouses of Admiral's Row, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Abandoned and exposed to the elements, the buildings have fallen into disrepair, while various redevelopment and preservation schemes have come and gone over the years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admirals-row-brooklyn-04.jpg\" alt=\"The abandoned townhouses of Admiral's Row, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After two previous attempts to build a $100 million development including a supermarket and space for industrial and office use fell through, another request for proposals\u00a0was issued in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crainsnewyork.com\/article\/20140707\/REAL_ESTATE\/140709920\/brooklyn-navy-yards-admirals-row-back-in-play#\" target=\"_blank\">July 2014.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img
