The &#8216;pier&#8217; featured in the climax to the Michael Caine 2001 film &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Last_Orders_(film)\" target=\"_blank\">Last Orders<\/a>&#8216; and it looked quite different then.<\/p>\n<p>Margate&#8217;s original\u00a0pier was washed away in a 1978 storm.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/margate-photos-jan-2015-27.jpg\" alt=\"Margate in winter: Dreamland, architecture, pub and beach views\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/margate-photos-jan-2015-28.jpg\" alt=\"Margate in winter: Dreamland, architecture, pub and beach views\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We paid a visit to the Turner Contemporary Gallery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/margate-photos-jan-2015-29.jpg\" alt=\"Margate in winter: Dreamland, architecture, pub and beach views\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once again, our visit seemed to coincide with the main gallery being closed for a new installation,\u00a0but the downstairs\u00a0Sunley Gallery was showing\u00a0<em>Atmosphere<\/em>, by artist Edmund de Waal.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">\n<p>This new work, commissioned specially for our ground floor gallery space overlooking the North Sea, has been created in response to the changing landscape and clouds viewed from the gallery and the architecture of the space.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;&#8230;minimalist displays of coolly beautiful ceramic objects seductively straddle the old gap between art and craft. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldwidelighthouses.com\/Lighthouses\/English-Lighthouses\/Privately-Owned\/Margate\" target=\"_blank\">&#8212;<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" Dating back to 1650, the pub is set to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thanetgazette.co.uk\/Margate-pub-turned-micro-brewery\/story-22878485-detail\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">transformed into a micro brewery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/margate-photos-jan-2015-59.jpg\" alt=\"Margate in winter: Dreamland, architecture, pub and beach views\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/margate-photos-jan-2015-60.jpg\" alt=\"Margate in winter: Dreamland, architecture, pub and beach views\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Greedy Cow &#8211;
