{"id":16083,"date":"2015-03-10T12:34:28","date_gmt":"2015-03-10T12:34:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=16083"},"modified":"2015-03-10T12:36:11","modified_gmt":"2015-03-10T12:36:11","slug":"a-fantastic-cafe-for-central-london-the-old-cafe-takes-over-rays-jazz-in-the-former-foyles-store","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/a-fantastic-cafe-for-central-london-the-old-cafe-takes-over-rays-jazz-in-the-former-foyles-store\/","title":{"rendered":"A fantastic cafe for central London: The Old Cafe takes over Ray&#8217;s Jazz in the former Foyles store"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/old-cafe-charing-cross-road-01.jpg\" alt=\"The Old Cafe opens in the former premises of Ray's Jazz Cafe in Foyles, Charing  Cross Road, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0was\u00a0pleased to discover that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/rays-jazz-cafe-at-foyles-bookshop-charing-cross-road-central-london\/\" target=\"_blank\">charm of the original Ray&#8217;s Jazz cafe<\/a> in the former Foyle&#8217;s store\u00a0on Charing Cross Road has been\u00a0recaptured in this new venture located in the old premises.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/old-cafe-charing-cross-road-03.jpg\" alt=\"The Old Cafe opens in the former premises of Ray's Jazz Cafe in Foyles, Charing  Cross Road, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Known as The Old Cafe, the place feels a lot like the old Ray&#8217;s Cafe (albeit more sparsely furnished) and is a world away from the hideously shiny new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/foyles-the-new-flagship-store-opens-as-we-reflect-on-the-chaotic-years-and-the-famous-shoplifters\/\" target=\"_blank\">Foyle&#8217;s cafe<\/a>\u00a0that has opened up in their relocated flagship store a few doors up the road.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/old-cafe-charing-cross-road-02.jpg\" alt=\"The Old Cafe opens in the former premises of Ray's Jazz Cafe in Foyles, Charing  Cross Road, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new independent cafe is run by some\u00a0of people involved in the original business, and they have managed to retain the same\u00a0relaxed and laid back vibe.<\/p>\n<p>I liked it here a lot. In fact, it&#8217;s now my favourite west end cafe.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/old-cafe-charing-cross-road-04.jpg\" alt=\"The Old Cafe opens in the former premises of Ray's Jazz Cafe in Foyles, Charing  Cross Road, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0prices aren&#8217;t the cheapest in town but the coffee was excellent, as was the Portuguese custard tart.
