Located on Gray’s Inn Road, the Offsite Gallery is run by Vic the Barber and offers an unusual place to see art that is “perhaps too unconventional to be shown in a gallery situation.”<\/p>\n

Although a barber’s shop is a very alien environment for me \ud83d\ude42 , I’d popped in to view\u00a0Gram Hilleard’s exhibition of ‘postcard provocations’, which included witty and acerbic\u00a0captions rightly mocking the language of developers.<\/p>\n

I also had a nice chat with Vic, who proved to be a\u00a0very entertaining host.<\/p>\n

Like many of us, Hilleard is not a man best pleased with how London is changing and gentrifying:<\/p>\n

Under the reign of the peroxide clown\u00a0London has been redeveloped like never before.<\/p>\n

The poor are moved out, whilst councils drop their planning regulations, hipsters are encouraged to gentrify, before they\u2019re replaced with overseas buyers.<\/p>\n

Eventually swathes of the city become uninhabited ghost areas with no citizens, no people. Why and for who?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The\u00a0exhibition also features\u00a0a series of \u2018outsider paintings\u2019 showing\u00a0old cafes, signs, buildings and shops,\u00a0and there were some familiar scenes in there including\u00a0the Kings Cross Lighthouse<\/a>, the Brixton Bovril sign<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Brixton Hill camping shop<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I really enjoyed the work.<\/p>\n
