a walk from Westgate On Sea to Margate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/westgate-on-sea-margate-01.jpg\" alt=\"Lost rabbits and hideous headwinds - a walk from Westgate On Sea to Margate\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before Dulwich Hamlet&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brixtonbuzz.com\/2015\/05\/theres-no-dreamland-for-dulwich-hamlet-as-they-lose-their-play-off-at-margate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crucial play off final at Margate<\/a>, I thought it would be a great idea to get off the train a stop earlier at Westgate-on-Sea and then walk the\u00a03 miles or so into town.<\/p>\n<p>This was to prove a Bad Idea, because as soon as I got off the train the rain got heavier and an almighty wind blasted me for every inch of the journey.\u00a0But first, let&#8217;s take a look around Westgate-on-Sea:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/westgate-on-sea-margate-02.jpg\" alt=\"Lost rabbits and hideous headwinds - a walk from Westgate On Sea to Margate\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Grade II listed building in the heart of the Westgate on Sea Town Centre Conservation Area, St Saviour\u2019s Church was consecrated on 23rd July 1884.<\/p>\n<p>The Gothic styled church is constructed from Kentish ragstone with door and window arches of Bath stone, and was\u00a0designed by Charles Beazley as an integral part of the exclusive development known as the Westgate on Sea Estate.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently hosting a &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.westgateheritagecentre.org.uk\/st-saviours-church.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fine organ and good stained glass including a five lancet east window by Charles Kempe and six others from his studio<\/a>,&#8221; the church has a ring of six bells, five of which are older than the church itself.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/westgate-on-sea-margate-03.jpg\" alt=\"Lost rabbits and hideous headwinds - a walk from Westgate On Sea to Margate\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The splendid\u00a0Grade II listed\u00a0Carlton Cinema\u00a0was originally built and opened in March 1910 as the\u00a0Town Hall, but was never used as such.<\/p>\n<p>With its flamboyant\u00a0Swiss-Gothic style architecture, \u00a0its\u00a0flat maplewood floor was used for roller skating before the building was converted into a cinema in 1912.<\/p>\n<p>Changing its\u00a0name from the Town Hall Cinema to the\u00a0Carlton Cinema twenty years later,\u00a0it now houses three screens and is owned by the Picturedrome Electric Theatre Company.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/westgate-on-sea-margate-04.jpg\" alt=\"Lost rabbits and hideous headwinds - a walk from Westgate On Sea to Margate\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center;
