{"id":16498,"date":"2015-08-26T14:53:17","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T13:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=16498"},"modified":"2015-08-26T14:56:30","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T13:56:30","slug":"beans-on-toast-and-captain-hotknives-my-two-favourite-acts-of-boomtown-fair-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/beans-on-toast-and-captain-hotknives-my-two-favourite-acts-of-boomtown-fair-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Beans On Toast and Captain Hotknives &#8211; my two favourite acts of Boomtown Fair 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/beans-on-toast-captain-hotknives-01.jpg\" alt=\"Beans On Toast and Captain Hotknives - my two favourite acts of Boomtown Fair 2015, Winchester, England, UK, August 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were loads of fantastic acts to be seen at this year&#8217;s Boomtown Fair, but the two I enjoyed the most were undoubtedly Beans On Toast and Captain Hotknives.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/beans-on-toast-captain-hotknives-02.jpg\" alt=\"Beans On Toast and Captain Hotknives - my two favourite acts of Boomtown Fair 2015, Winchester, England, UK, August 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Both acts have a fair bit in common &#8211; they&#8217;re both solo performers and both lace their songs with intelligence, sharp observations and wit to get across everyday stories and important political points.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been lucky enough to have Beans On Toast play my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/offline\/photos.html\" target=\"_blank\">Offline Club<\/a> in Brixton a couple of times in the past, and I was surprised to see the size of the crowd he&#8217;d pulled at Old Mine stage at Boomtown &#8211; it was big!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/beans-on-toast-captain-hotknives-04.jpg\" alt=\"Beans On Toast and Captain Hotknives - my two favourite acts of Boomtown Fair 2015, Winchester, England, UK, August 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The crowd knew most of his songs too, and there was a real sense of togetherness when he played one of his most popular songs, M.D.M.Amazing. but no less passionate &#8211; crowd around the bandstand was the superb <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/captainhotknives?fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">Captain Hotknives.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/beans-on-toast-captain-hotknives-09.jpg\" alt=\"Beans On Toast and Captain Hotknives - my two favourite acts of Boomtown Fair 2015, Winchester, England, UK, August 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/beans-on-toast-captain-hotknives-11.jpg\" alt=\"Beans On Toast and Captain Hotknives - my two favourite acts of Boomtown Fair 2015, Winchester, England, UK, August 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The good Captain has also been a regular at my Offline nights, but I thought that this was one of his best performances: funny and fast with cutting wit.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/beans-on-toast-captain-hotknives-12.jpg\" alt=\"Beans On Toast and Captain Hotknives - my two favourite acts of Boomtown Fair 2015, Winchester, England, UK, August 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Captain Hotknives takes on a wide range of social ills, but his song about racism is nothing sort of genius:<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center;
