{"id":16800,"date":"2015-11-24T15:51:47","date_gmt":"2015-11-24T15:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=16800"},"modified":"2015-11-24T15:51:47","modified_gmt":"2015-11-24T15:51:47","slug":"scottish-heart-and-passion-admiral-fallow-live-at-the-prince-albert-in-brighton-nov-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/scottish-heart-and-passion-admiral-fallow-live-at-the-prince-albert-in-brighton-nov-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish heart and passion: Admiral Fallow live at the Prince Albert in Brighton, Nov 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admiral-fallow-01.jpg\" alt=\"Admiral Fallow live at the Prince Albert in Brighton, November 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Formed in Glasgow in 2007,\u00a0Admiral Fallow are another of those relatively obscure Scottish bands that I seem inexorably drawn to (see also: The Blue Nile\/Doll By Doll etc), and a couple of weeks ago I hopped on a train to Brighton to see them perform live.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admiral-fallow-02.jpg\" alt=\"Admiral Fallow live at the Prince Albert in Brighton, November 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The band were playing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ThePrinceAlbert\/\" target=\"_blank\">Prince Albert venue<\/a> &#8211; the same place where I&#8217;d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/70s-new-wave-art-rockers-deaf-school-turn-up-the-volume-in-brighton\/\" target=\"_blank\">seen art-rockers Deaf School a few months previously<\/a> &#8211; and it&#8217;s a great little gig, located upstairs in\u00a0a popular boozer a short walk from the mainline station.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admiral-fallow-03.jpg\" alt=\"Admiral Fallow live at the Prince Albert in Brighton, November 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d randomly got into Admiral Fallow after coming across one of their tracks on Spotify, and the more I delved, the more I liked them (although, it has to be said, I like their albums in reverse order of release).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admiral-fallow-04.jpg\" alt=\"Admiral Fallow live at the Prince Albert in Brighton, November 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m rubbish at describing music, so I suggest you scroll down to listen to the two YouTube links further down the page. Perhaps labelling them as &#8216;indie-alt-folk-rock-pop with powerful, dark and often political\u00a0lyrics&#8217; probably might give you some idea.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admiral-fallow-05.jpg\" alt=\"Admiral Fallow live at the Prince Albert in Brighton, November 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll probably want me to add some band comparisons, so the best I can muster is to throw in early Snow Patrol with some\u00a0Arcade Fire, Stars Of Sunday League, Del Amitri, The Delgados, the National and Frightened Rabbit.\u00a0Not sure if that helps, mind.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admiral-fallow-07.jpg\" alt=\"Admiral Fallow live at the Prince Albert in Brighton, November 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, back to the gig. It was good.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a small venue so the stage was pretty cramped, and unless you walked around to the side you wouldn&#8217;t spot multi-instrumentalist\/singer, Sarah Hayes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/admiral-fallow-08.jpg\" alt=\"Admiral Fallow live at the Prince Albert in Brighton, November 2015\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My favourite album, Boots Met My Face (2009), is their first, and is a starkly honest affair.<\/p>\n<p>Lead singer and main writer Louis Abbott said &#8220;All of the songs document the first chapter of my life, be it memories from school or kicking a ball about with my childhood chums. All are taken from real life events. There&#8217;s no fiction. I&#8217;m not into making up stories or characters for the sake of trying to stir emotions.
