On a damp and misty Sunday, we got the tube up from Brixton to Vauxhall station and headed west.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-01.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This south riverside is being enthusiastically developed to provide luxury flats for the well heeled. In the distance you can see Battersea Power Station&#8217;s chimneys being rebuilt.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-02.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Billed as &#8220;London&#8217;s new diplomatic precinct,&#8221; Embassy Gardens is\u00a0on the riverside of Nine Elms and comes with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.embassygardens.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">usual glossy website<\/a> to attract the overstuffed wallets of the rich.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-03.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The riverside path takes you past several permanent moorings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-04.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-05.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s quite literally a house boat.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-06.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Low tide on the Thames.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-07.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After years of deliberation and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/london\/battersea-power-station.html\" target=\"_blank\">few wild proposals<\/a>, work has gone ahead of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/battersea-power-station-redevelopment-plans-get-the-green-light\/\" target=\"_blank\">dreary redevelopment of the area<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-08.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-09.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-10.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In nearby Battersea Park can be found\u00a0Barbara Hepworth&#8217;s 1961-2 sculpture &#8220;Single Form,&#8221; dedicated to the memory of Dag Hammarskjold, the late general secretary of the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-11.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-12.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking across the river to the fine houses of Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/vauxhall-chelsea-saatchi-13.jpg\" alt=\"A walk from Vauxhall to Chelsea and the Saatchi Gallery, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The London Peace Pagoda was built in\u00a01985 in Battersea Park.
