Its area has been reduced by the loss of Roehampton to the south-west, an offshoot hamlet that conserved more of its own clustered historic core<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 1855 the parish was included in the area of responsibility of the Metropolitan Board of Works and was grouped into the Wandsworth District. In 1889 the area was removed from Surrey and became part of the County of London.<\/p>\n<p>The Wandsworth District became the Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth in 1900. Since 1965 Putney has formed part of the London Borough of Wandsworth in Greater London.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/putney-night-photos-03.jpg\" alt=\"Putney at night: river views, Putney Bridge, the Half Moon and street views, January 2017\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking west from Putney Bridge.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/putney-night-photos-04.jpg\" alt=\"Putney at night: river views, Putney Bridge, the Half Moon and street views, January 2017\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Designed by civil engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette as a five-span structure, Putney Bridge is built of stone and Cornish granite and was\u00a0constructed by <a title=\"John Waddell (engineer)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Waddell_(engineer)\" target=\"_blank\">John Waddell<\/a> of Edinburgh, whose tender of \u00a3240,433 (equivalent to \u00a321,839,173 in 2015) was accepted on 15 April 1882.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0700\u00a0ft long (210\u00a0m) and 43\u00a0ft wide (13\u00a0m) bridge was opened by the Prince (later King Edward VII) and Princess of Wales on 29 May 1886, and was\u00a0widened in 1933 to its present three carriageways.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/putney-night-photos-05.jpg\" alt=\"Putney at night: river views, Putney Bridge, the Half Moon and street views, January 2017\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was in Putney to play a gig with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themonochromeset.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monochrome Set<\/a> at the Half Moon on Lower Richmond Road.<\/p>\n<p>One of London&#8217;s longest running, and most respected live music venues, the Half Moon has hosted some of the biggest names in popular music since the early 1960s, so I found myself on the very stage that witnessed Kate Bush&#8217;s first ever public performance.<\/p>\n<p>Putting on live\u00a0music\u00a0every night since 1963, the small stage has also groaned under the weight of mahoosive acts such\u00a0The Rolling Stones, The Who, U2, Ralph McTell, John Martyn, Bert Jansch, Roy Harper, Fairport Convention, Van Morrison, Dr. Feelgood, Elvis Costello and Nick Cave.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/putney-night-photos-06.jpg\" alt=\"Putney at night: river views, Putney Bridge, the Half Moon and street views, January 2017\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was playing on this lovely vintage retro Rogers drum kit, courtesy of the support band&#8217;s stand-in drummer. Thanks again!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/putney-night-photos-07.jpg\" alt=\"Putney at night: river views, Putney Bridge, the Half Moon and street views, January 2017\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As always, I brought along my Ridge Rider cowbell and fairy lights to supplement the kit. There&#8217;s never enough cowbell in my world. Definitely not my kind of place, then.<\/p>\n<p>The Toy Shop has a cocktail menu that sounds like it was designed for 5 year olds (&#8220;Moopy\u2019s Milk Bottle,\u00a0Revenge of The Gingerbread Man,\u00a0Swizzle Diddle,\u00a0Jim Jam Very Berry Bash&#8221;) but the prices are very grown up, starting at \u00a38.50.<\/p>\n<p>Next door is a branch of the Be At One cocktail chain, where prices are even more expensive.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/putney-night-photos-15.jpg\" alt=\"Putney at night: river views, Putney Bridge, the Half Moon and street views, January 2017\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sited next to the River Thames, beside the southern approach to Putney Bridge, St Mary&#8217;s Church dates back to the 13th century.<\/p>\n<p>The current, Grade II listed building, has parts dating back to\u00a0medieval times.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Putney Bridge at night.<\/p>\n<p>To the left can be seen the tower of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All_Saints_Church,_Fulham\" target=\"_blank\">All Saints Church<\/a>, Fulham.\u00a0There has been a church on the same site for more than 900 years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/putney-night-photos-17.jpg\" alt=\"Putney at night: river views, Putney Bridge, the Half Moon and street views, January 2017\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Duke&#8217;s Head is a large\u00a0Victorian grade II listed pub that has overlooked the River Thames in Putney for nearly 150 years, and is sited at\u00a0the start of the annual Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were supported by the excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefallenleaves.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fallen Leaves<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"
