I love a bit of neon art<\/a>, and there’s a splendid display on at the Tate Britain in London right now, created by Welsh artist,\u00a0Cerith Wyn Evans.<\/p>\n

The Tate Britain stands on the banks of the Thames and is\u00a0one of the largest museums in the country.<\/p>\n

Originally known as the\u00a0National Gallery of British Art from 1897 to 1932, and then the Tate Gallery from 1932 to 2000, the Tate Britain is the oldest\u00a0Tate\u00a0gallery in the network, and\u00a0houses a substantial collection of the art of the United Kingdom since Tudor times.<\/p>\n

\"Neon<\/p>\n

“Forms in Space\u2026by Light (in\u00a0Time),” to give the work its full title, is the 2017 Tate Britain Commission and has been created\u00a0created\u00a0from almost 2km of neon lighting, suspended from the ceiling and configured into straight lines, sweeping curves and spiralling\u00a0forms.<\/p>\n

It runs until 20th August 2017.<\/p>\n

Born in Llanelli in 1958,\u00a0Cerith Wyn Evans is a Welsh conceptual artist, sculptor and film-maker who first made a name for himself producing experimental films and collaborative works.<\/p>\n

He has subsequently expanded his practice to incorporate sculpture, photography, film and text to communicate his interest in language and\u00a0perception.\u00a0Read more about him on Wikipedia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Tate website<\/a> has this to say of the work:<\/p>\n

This \u201cdrawing in space\u201d takes inspiration from the codified and precise movements of Japanese Noh theatre, reflecting the artist\u2019s interest in choreology \u2013 the practice of translating movement, such as dance, into notational form, like a musical score.<\/p>\n

The commission relates closely to the artist\u2019s earlier sculptures that translated diagrammatic flight paths into neon. The work\u2019s intricate structure, comprised of seemingly endless points of intersection and divergence, and deconstructed sculptural forms play with the viewer\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n

Forms in Space\u2026 by Light (in Time)<\/em> could be viewed as a celestial map, encouraging visitors to orientate themselves within an environment full of potential meanings and connections<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
