{"id":18052,"date":"2017-09-20T16:26:22","date_gmt":"2017-09-20T15:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=18052"},"modified":"2017-09-21T14:35:31","modified_gmt":"2017-09-21T13:35:31","slug":"in-photos-jazz-jamming-and-pricey-drinks-at-ronnie-scotts-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/in-photos-jazz-jamming-and-pricey-drinks-at-ronnie-scotts-london\/","title":{"rendered":"In photos: Jazz, jamming, and pricey drinks at Ronnie Scott&#8217;s, London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/ronnie-scotts-photos-01.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Jazz, jamming, and pricey drinks at Ronnie Scott's, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last week I paid a midweek visit to the esteemed Ronnie Scott&#8217;s jazz club in Frith Street, Soho.<\/p>\n<p>I went along with a crew of Brixton pals to see a friend play in one of the bands performing in the Tuesday TV Nights event in the smaller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ronniescotts.co.uk\/upstairsronnies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Upstairs@Ronnie&#8217;s<\/a> venue.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/ronnie-scotts-photos-02.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Jazz, jamming, and pricey drinks at Ronnie Scott's, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Naturally, being the West End, I knew my wallet was set to take a battering, and that started at the door.<\/p>\n<p>The club night advertises admission as \u00a38 (or \u00a36 with a flyer print out) &#8211; trouble was that there was no up-to-date flyer on the advertised Facebook page to print out, so eight quid it was.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, any hope of buying an actual pint evaporated at the sight of a fridge full of beer bottles, and once again I was reminded of my Soho location with two small bottles of Peroni and one Camden brewery beer being charged at SEVENTEEN facking quid. The rip off bastards.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/ronnie-scotts-photos-03.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Jazz, jamming, and pricey drinks at Ronnie Scott's, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Inside there was a mixed crowd of all ages, enjoying the jazzy sounds on offer.<\/p>\n<p>I have to confess it wasn&#8217;t my kind of thing, with the volume set at a far-too-polite level and a lot of muso &#8216;musicianship&#8217; on display (five string basses, <em>doo-be-doo<\/em> jazz singing, pained expressions accompanying each difficult chord, and the like) but the crowd seemed to enjoy it. But then I doubt if they cared what an old punk rocker thought anyway.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/ronnie-scotts-photos-04.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Jazz, jamming, and pricey drinks at Ronnie Scott's, London\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The last band on at least had some oomph to them, with our pal the drummer thumping the kit with some much-needed aggression.
